Remembering the boxers

I have often thought that the #1 benefit of home ownership is being able to have dogs. When we bought our first home ~15 years ago, the addition of Mikki the brindle boxer was not far behind. He was such a sweetheart of a dog, and smart to boot! He easily learned several tricks in one day. My favorite Mikki trick was how he'd lay on his side, with his head on the floor, when told to lay his head down. His worst puppy prank was eating a couple of paperback books, for which he was quickly forgiven.

Rosebud came on the scene about 1.5 years later. Fawn with a black face and a vertical white stripe right between her eyes, Rosebud was a firecracker from day 1. Mikki was very tolerant of her escapades, and they quickly became pals.

Rosebud's lasting legacy is her tail-wagging. She wagged her tail at any mention of her name. Even on her last day, you could get a few tail wags out of her. Today, we put her to rest, and a chapter of our lives closed. We continue with Bruno the American Bulldog, whom she helped raise.
